Surabaya, 2025 – The Internship Program (Praktik Kerja Lapangan/PKL) is a form of applied learning designed for undergraduate (S-1) students, aimed at integrating academic theory with practical experience in real-world work environments. Through this program, students are expected to develop both technical and non-technical skills, expand their professional insights, and contribute meaningfully to solving problems in the field. Satu Data Universitas Airlangga, as the official data management working group under the Directorate of Information Systems and Digitalization (DSID), supports the implementation of PKL by providing relevant project opportunities and facilities for students. Since March 2025, Satu Data has hosted two internship teams from the Information Systems undergraduate program, with projects focusing on Data Visualization and Website Development. These internships, which ran until June, produced several tangible outcomes.

The Data Visualization team consisted of Alma Alya Cipta Putri, Anak Agung Ayu Bunga Kausalya, and Fina Niswatin Nikmah, supervised by La Ode Syahriman, S.Stat., the Head of Data Visualization. Their project, titled Designing Visualization and Dashboards for the Directorate of Information Systems and Digitalization at Universitas Airlangga”, was developed over three months using Tableau as the primary visualization tool. The outcomes included a KPI Dashboard for Universitas Airlangga, visualizations of SDG achievements by regency/city across Indonesia—modeled after the I-SIM website interface—and an ER/Hospital Dashboard. During the project, the team gained valuable insights, such as the importance of understanding the audience when choosing chart types, mastering Tableau's interactive features to improve visualization flexibility, and standardizing data formats along with creating a data dictionary early on to ensure an efficient and consistent ETL process.

Meanwhile, the Website Development team, consisting of Ibra Cardine, Arya Prasetya and Hansen Dafa worked on a project titled “Real World Fake Data (RWFD) Website Development using Laravel 12 and React JS”. Under the guidance of Christiant Dimas Renggana, S.Kom., the Coordinator & Database Administrator, the team developed a functional dataset management website that integrates with the Cyber Campus Unair API (Application Programming Interface). The development process followed the SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle) framework, from gathering user requirements to designing solutions based on the design thinking approach. Through this project, students gained comprehensive insights into the importance of system architecture and technology selection, the need for standardized software requirement documentation to align understanding between the product owner and technical team, and the role of structured project scheduling in maintaining efficiency and effectiveness.

The internship program at Satu Data Universitas Airlangga has provided students with valuable hands-on experience in applying academic knowledge to real-world scenarios. Through two distinct projects, students not only delivered useful outputs for the institution but also gained a deeper understanding of professional workflows, industry-standard tools, and the critical role of teamwork and planning. The lessons learned from this internship are expected to serve as a strong foundation for facing future career challenges and professional development.
