On December 23rd, 2024, Satu Data Universitas Airlangga successfully held an insightful event titled “Focus Group Discussion: Data-Driven Continuous Improvement” at Sriwijaya Hall, ASEEC Tower. This event brought together deans, vice deans and data stewards from all faculties with the aim of equipping them to effectively utilize Satu Data’s interactive dashboard. By mastering this tool, faculty stakeholders can enhance their decision-making processes and drive continuous improvement in their respective faculties.
The initiative was spearheaded by Prof. Muhammad Miftahussurur, Vice Rector of Internationalization, Digitalization, and Information Universitas Airlangga. Prof. Miftahussurur emphasized the importance of adoption, stating, “The product created by Satu Data is already good and should be helpful, but it will never bring benefits if the faculty can’t use it.” His vision underscored the need for this FGD to bridge the gap between the tool’s potential and its practical implementation.
This event was first introduced to all faculties through a Pre-FGD held on November 29, 2024. The Pre-FGD was conducted to explain what would be discussed during the main FGD, allowing faculties to prepare themselves in advance.
The event commenced with an opening speech by the Rector of Universitas Airlangga, Prof. Mohammad Nasih, who stressed the value of data-driven decision-making. In his remarks, he said, “We need to push the habit of taking every decision based on the data we have, so it will help us to improve continuously in the future.” This set the tone for a day dedicated to fostering a culture of data-informed practices.
Dr. Unggul Heriqbaldi, the leader of the Satu Data Task Force, provided a detailed explanation of the dashboard’s features and functionality. His presentation served as a guide for participants, ensuring they understood how to navigate the tool and extract meaningful insights. Following this, Prof. Dwi Setyawan, Dean of the Fakultas Teknologi Maju dan Multidisiplin, shared an insightful narrative. He described how Satu Data is an excellent innovation that can help faculties streamline their tasks, and he also offered advice on potential improvements to Satu Data’s dashboard.
The heart of the event was the interactive discussion session, where participants explored the strengths and weaknesses of their current processes. Using data from the QS Subject Rankings and Lecturer Profiles provided by the Satu Data dashboard, each faculty analyzed their performance and shared insights with others. The collaborative atmosphere encouraged innovation, as faculties presented their findings on stage to inspire their peers.
To add an engaging twist, a quiz competition was held, requiring participants to use the dashboard to answer questions. This activity not only tested their knowledge but also reinforced the practical application of the tool. The event concluded with an awarding ceremony, recognizing the top three faculties based on their FGD results and the top three individual participants from the quiz competition.
This FGD marked a significant step toward fostering a data-driven culture at Universitas Airlangga. By equipping faculty stakeholders with the skills to use Satu Data’s interactive dashboard, the university aims to create a sustainable foundation for continuous improvement. The organizing committee expressed hope that this event would serve as a pivotal moment in advancing Universitas Airlangga’s vision of becoming a leader in data-driven organizational excellence.
